Tuesday 11 December 2007: Messiah
Dunedin Town Hall
Messiah, the oratorio composed by George Frideric Handel in 1741, is his most famous creation and is among the most popular works in the Western choral literature. Messiah does not tell a story in conventional terms and is therefore unlike almost all other baroque oratorios, but it amply demonstrates Handel's considerable abilities as an operatic composer.
This performance of Messiah is produced by the City of Dunedin choir directed by David Burchell. The Southern Sinfonia provides the musical support.
